Emily's life is shattered when a highwayman holds up her family's carriage and she witnesses her parents murdered. She is now orphaned and living on distant family's farm, when the highwayman is caught and requests to speak with her. Suddenly things may become deeper than she ever imagined they were.
The Highway Man's Confession rips your heart out and stomps on it right from the start. The beginning is engaging, but I almost didn't want to push through due to imagery from scenes. However, I am extremely glad I kept reading through. While the beginning does feel fairly intense in the violent aspect, I feel it is highly necessary for the story line. The story was wonderful, thrilling, and had my heart racing many times.
Author Sean Kikkert keeps you on your toes and needing to know what happens next. I loved not being able to predict everything that was going to happen and was thrilled with how the storyline progresses. Characters are asking and captivating, only character I had a difficult time feeling anything for was Cornelius. However, the rest of it was wonderful and I do recommend it. The Highway Man's Confession is fairly different from my typical reads, and I was very pleased with it. I look forward to reading more by this author.
*There is some violence, murder, and hangings that occur in this book. They aren't extremely detailed but do have some that may not sit well with some readers. So it is one thing to be aware of if that isn't the type of thing you want to read.*
